Matino Medical Devices & René Gerber AG agree - best quality and full attention to life support systems.

Matino Medical Devices GmbH is a specialist in the production of titanium and stainless-steel products and has over 30 years of experience in the production of titanium housings for medical applications. Based on this experience, they supply a wide variety of housings for medical purposes. For a good three years now, a Gerber brush polishing machine of the type BPMX has been allowed to get involved in the process of this high-tech production.

As a service provider in sheet metal forming with strengths in deep drawing, cutting, minting, and bending, Matino manufactures housings for final implants such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and hearing implants.

Pacemaker housings consist of two parts and are welded together at the end. The edges must lie exactly on top of each other. Therefore, the parts must not have any burrs and must have a minimum honing to form a basis for a clean laser weld.

The quality of the alloys supplied (standard specification according to medical standard), which are used in the manufacture of implants, always presents a major challenge for Matino. Originally, the components were deburred manually, which is why the precision and surface quality of the alloys often varied even after deburring.

In an initial project, René Gerber AG was able to deburr the titanium implants on the outer profile in a defined and process-reliable manner using a specific solution approach with the BPMX brush polishing machine.

The BPMX processes the edges consistently and deburrs them just as evenly. The process is automated and thus significantly more economical and, above all, reproducible compared to manual deburring. As a result, the amount of scrap can be reduced to a minimum and the quality of the parts maximized. With the use of the BPMX brush polishing system, Matino is aiming to eliminate all remaining manual deburring processes for other customers with flatter and smaller parts.

René Gerber started in the first project with a specific solution approach. The good results and the proverbial reliability of BPMX prompted Matino to start another project with René Gerber AG.

One of the reasons is that the risks of possible biocompatibility are reduced for Matino Medical Devices, as only dry processing is used. Proven media are used once again. Series production of parts is therefore possible because the function remains the same. The only difference is that instead of manual production, deburring is now done by machine. Matino thus gains valuable time, and a complete requalification is avoided.

The cooperation and ongoing exchange of ideas with René Gerber AG is therefore highly appreciated. Various trials with René Gerber AG were able to identify critical points to find a joint solution that brings clear advantages in terms of quality, quantity, and economy.

The BPMX brush polishing machine runs non-stop very successfully in two-shift operation at Matino. In particular, the simplicity of operation, as well as the increase in efficiency and process reliability are clearly endorsed. One thing remains evident: Life-supporting systems deserve the best quality and full attention!
